Side Cord and Selvedge Rebinding
The wrapped cord running down the long side of a rug takes the worst of the wear, and it is usually the first thing to go. It is also the cheapest thing on a rug to fix and the most expensive thing to ignore.

The damage
The side cord had split along a stretch of the edge and the wrapping yarn had unravelled, leaving the warps beneath exposed. Temporary threads were holding the edge closed. Left alone, an open edge like this lets the field start shedding knots row by row.
What we did
We secured the exposed warps first, then rewrapped the side cord in colour-matched silk, working at the same tension and the same wraps-per-inch as the original so the repaired stretch does not read tighter or looser than the rest. Both ends were blended into the sound sections either side.
A continuous, even edge with no change in thickness where the new work meets the old.
